APRI Score Calculator

Calculate your APRI (AST to Platelet Ratio Index) score to assess fibrosis risk. Based on Wai et al. (2003) and international standards.

Calculate Your APRI Score

What You Need: Your recent AST lab value (in U/L), AST upper limit of normal (usually 40), and platelet count (in 10^9/L).

What is APRI?

APRI (AST to Platelet Ratio Index) is a simple, non-invasive test using routine blood work to estimate fibrosis risk.

Formula: [(AST/ULN) / Platelet count] × 100

Cutoff Values

Low Risk

< 0.5

Intermediate

0.5 - 1.5

High Risk

> 1.5

Understanding APRI in Simple Terms

Why APRI is Useful

  • Non-invasive: Uses only blood tests, no needles or procedures
  • Quick: Uses routine lab values you may already have
  • Affordable: No additional testing needed
  • Reliable: Validated in multiple studies
  • Complementary: Works well with FIB-4 and FibroScan

How to Compare Scores

You can use APRI alongside FIB-4 and FibroScan for a comprehensive assessment:

  • All low: Very reassuring, minimal fibrosis
  • Mixed results: Further testing (FibroScan) recommended
  • All high: Advanced fibrosis likely, urgent evaluation needed

Important Notes:

  • ✓ APRI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis
  • ✓ It cannot replace liver biopsy or FibroScan
  • ✓ Results may be affected by acute hepatitis
  • ✓ Always discuss results with your doctor
  • ✓ Use with FIB-4 for better accuracy
